Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green’s Alder Hey Christmas Lecture: Putting Compassion Back Into Compassionate Care

Published Mon 6th January 2025

Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green delivered Alder Hey Children’s Hospital’s 2024 Christmas Lecture, focusing on the urgent need to restore compassion at the heart of healthcare. In his talk, “Putting Compassion Back Into Compassionate Care,” he outlines the purpose of his talk, to expose and address the mismatch between the wonders of medical science and the erosion of the humanity of care in services. Al draws on his own personal experience to really challenge us in this area.

He also reflected on Alder Hey’s long-standing commitment to compassionate practice and why protecting that culture matters now more than ever.
